We will continue to elaborate on the points given in the second earlier post. Here, we will talk about the second step there-mentioned “KNOW THE JOB YOU SEEK” in finding the perfect job for ourselves.
Let’s say we already figured ourselves out and decided on what we want to do as a career. Now, it is a must to think about what that career corresponds to in terms of a real job and whether that job is suitable for us.
We should have a general idea that we can apply to find the good match between our personality traits and the job we would like to do. Here is a simple list of points you need to focus on for a more realistic and well-directed approach in finding the perfect job for you.
1. Search about that “perfect job”
Most people chose their job based on level of income, prestige or social status it promises. However, few people think deeper and learn about what it takes to perform activities those jobs requires for a promising career.
For instance, I had friends who are medical doctors and think of quitting their jobs despite huge efforts and dedication they put to finish their studies. They found out the necessities of being a doctor is not a well fit to their personality traits or life expectations. Working long hours and dealing with patients require high stamina and patience. They discovered that they cannot build a family or social life they aspire by being a doctor. So, some of them already quit even though it is a tough decision.
You will be in disadvantage if you do not know the general working conditions as well as the job scope and jump right in to chose it as your profession. You need to first search and find out the responsibilities of a profession and what kind of sacrifices you need to make to be happy with it.
If not, it is a waste of time and energy but most importantly waste of hopes and dreams. Therefore, it is crucial to know the job and its requirements before deciding and pursuing one
2. Forever or never
Ask yourself if you can do that job for the rest of your life without getting tired or bored of it. Not that you will have to do it for the rest of your life, but because you should have the passion and motivation worth doing it for a long time.
Without the will to progress and flourish, we may get lost on the road. Even though there is no such thing as standalone “perfect job”, we still can make the most of it. Every job has their downsides but it is the very core elements that can make us passionate about them. For instance, a doctor can love the idea of saving people’s lives but they may hate the long working hours. Still, if a doctor can have the job satisfaction out of touching people’s lives in an unmatched ways, remaining unpleasant aspects of the job become insignificant.
To find the perfect job, you need to ask yourself what pleases you when or if you perform that job. What exactly brings out the best traits and abilities of you when you perform that job? If a job can give answers to many of these questions, it is suitable for you. Instead of the job roles and tasks, focus on the core requirements of a job to check whether it is a good fit for you. Other aspects that you dislike can be bearable.
In short, knowing the job well can bring satisfaction you seek. If you can check out the pros and cons of a job, it helps making a good decision.
3. Search for the future of the Job
We are living in a fast paced world where the technology improves in the speed of light. This naturally affects the jobs and how we perform them. Some jobs already vanished and some others are coming to existence. Some of them already are transforming to different ones. Therefore, you need to keep abreast of these developments in order to have up-to-date information.
For instance, in the field of procurement companies started using software programs to manage the entire supply chain. This is where companies are connected to each other in order keep inventories and orders in place on a timely manner. Most companies do not need humans anymore for placing orders and keeping up with the inventories. Hence, you need to consider planning a career in supply chain management in the light of these developments. Also, you need to follow newly made job descriptions and areas in order to pick a career that can adopt the future. As a result, you will need to also be aware of the recent developments in terms of fields that would create different jobs.
Knowing your battleground can bring you victory.
