Hey there Millennial!
Are you in a state where you don’t know what you should do to ascertain your purpose in life? Are you constantly self questioning? Have you ever felt like a stranger in your comfort zone? Well… I have answered these questions with “yes”. I am also guessing that you have done too as you landed on this page.
The more I think, the more I get lost. Questions begets more questions. Answers I find are not sufficient. I find myself questioning so many things in my life in pursuit of finding my purpose and place in this world.
The self questioning started when I realized that I was not happy with the work I do. My first job was quite like hell. My colleagues and the company were toxic. As opposed to the company’s prestigious image, I was not assigned to a position fitting my qualifications due to the biased approach in human resource management. I was busy with errands to the extent that there was no quality work. This made me start to search for opportunities outside. Eventually, I left that company with having almost two years of work experience.
The Current State
I have always been ready for more responsibilities and challenges. So, I was over the clouds when I found a job at the company I work currently. Because I had hopes in the new organization and the new job description I was assigned to. It has been almost 5 years since I have started working here. I have arrived in a quite good position in terms of pay and title. However, there seems to be a void that I cannot fill in regards to the satisfaction I get from what I do. The work became so repetitive and unskilled labour had increased over the time.
I started believing that this made me an underachiever. I have always had higher standard for myself. It feels like I am wasting time and energy on the activities I could have done when I was a high schooler. I am not using my potential currently. There should be a platform for me to show my creativity through challenging responsibilities. My current job does not provide such opportunity anymore which turns into dissatisfaction and lack of commitment to my job and the organization as a whole.
Make a long story short, I realized that my time here is expired and I need a fresh start somewhere else.
How to Find Answers to Self Questioning?
I feel that I belong to some other environment but I am stuck in the current one. I am on a relatively good financial terms compared to so many qualified people who are unemployed in my country. Hence, I am grateful for what I have. Yet, there is something bothering me regarding the joy, excitement and fulfillment I lack in my job and consequently in my life in general. I feell like I need to do something significant to do what is best for me. Only in this way, I can be myself and finally be happy with what I do.
Some of you here may think that the job we do does not mean everything and that what matters the most is who we are above all else. You may also think that our jobs are only the source of financial income and do not define who we are. These are all true. However, I believe that as adults living in the 21st century, we need to be financially stable and self-sufficient in order to survive in this quite competitive world. Our jobs therefore, sits at the center of our lives. As millennials, we are most suffering generation in terms of freedom we own over our life and financial compensation we deserve to have.
Additionally, as millennials we look for meaning and satisfaction in our jobs as we spent at least one third of our daytime at work. It is necessary to be realistic about the economies but it is also human to feel the need to satisfy our hearts and souls. Thus, we look for jobs that can provide us both of these needs to convince that our time is not wasted. This way, we can feel happy when we return our homes after a hectic day.
The Resolution
Until here, we are familiar with the situation but the real issue and self questioning starts when we think about best fit in terms of satisfaction we get from what we do. Should we look for our dream job no matter how long it takes? Should we try to make the best of what we have? Can we give up on what we have been cumulating so that we can start over and have our needs and wants the way we want them?
Well.. I am right at in the middle of this self questioning period. Currently, I am looking for better opportunities and willing to take risks but still it should be somehow calculated too. Therefore, I want to take you to this journey with me so that you may be inspired and can inspire me too. Kindly follow me onto the next episodes where I will be talking about what I am currently doing to change my situation.
Before all that I want you to believe that it is never impossible nor late to change your life.
As long as you want it, you can take it! The rest is a useless crowd..
